Early Flowers

I was inspired by the very first flush of spring, before any leaves or grass turn green - magnolia, peach blossom, dandelion appearing while the garden is still mostly bare. I drew these flowers on site in my own garden, trying to catch that early moment before it passed: the deep violet of magnolia, the soft peach of the blossoming tree, the gold of dandelion. So I created a pattern straight from those quick garden sketches, keeping the immediacy and slight roughness of drawing outdoors rather than working the shapes into anything more polished. It reminds me of that first rush of color against bare branches, before the rest of the garden catches up.

I made it to feel bright and a little urgent - the flowers getting there first. I created it with stationery, table linens and playful spring textiles in mind.
