Illustration rooted in texture and real life
I'm Kata Qooo, a mixed media lifestyle illustrator based in Poland. I work with paint, ink, collage and printmaking - and finish things digitally when the analogue stops cooperating, which it regularly does.
My process starts away from the screen by choice. Physical materials introduce unpredictability: ink that spreads further than planned, paper that tears, textures that arrive by accident rather than intention. I've built my practice around working with this rather than against it. There's a wabi-sabi logic to it - the imperfect mark usually carries more life than the controlled one.
The themes I keep returning to are ones I genuinely live with: yoga and mindful movement, nature, food, travel, wellness, emotional resilience. They fill my notebooks before they fill my portfolio.
I studied Visual Communication at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz (ASP), which gave me a useful framework for thinking about rhythm, clarity and how images actually function. A long daily drawing practice gave me everything else.
My practice spans editorial illustration, book covers, and surface design - patterns, prints and textiles. I'm part of the international illustration community through the Association of Illustrators, Directory of Illustration and Illustrators For Hire.
If my work resonates with you, I'd love to connect.
